Registering is registering...

No refunds. No turning back now. It's done. I've officially registered for the Chicago Half Marathon. September. I'm glad I'm sitting down. I'm kind of in shock. I had to register because I needed to make that final commitment. It's one thing to say it, another to fork out the dough and push the "register" button. I'm encouraged by the progress I've made (albeit, just a week of training so far!), the schedule ahead of me (and rewards at milestones!), the encouragement I've received (no one said I was crazy - not to my face. Ok, maybe one person did...). I'm a little concerned about the stiffness in my knees. Like the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz, my knees need a little greasing! It will be ok. I can do this. I can. I will. See you at the finish line!

The goal

Here’s the goal: By the end of each month, I want to be able to run (and when I say run, I think I mean jog):

Feb 1.5 miles (done!)
Mar 3 miles
Apr 4 miles
May 6 miles
June 8 miles
July 10 miles
Aug 11 miles
Sept 13 miles
Training for a half marathon

Yes, I'm crazy. But I'd rather do a half marathon than a whole marathon, so why not? Like my friend (and running buddy) Anne, I'm wondering what possessed me to say "sure, let's run in the half marathon!" I'm not sure I've ever finished a 5K. BUT that will not stop me, we will make it! So, below is my first "journal entry" or blog about it!

2/12/09
So, I walked ¼ of a mile on the treadmill, jogged 1 ½ miles (slowly, 4.4-4.5 mph) and then walked another quarter of a mile. I was pleased because I didn’t feel like I was going to die, no pain, but did sweat and my face was still red after my shower – not quite as red as the blood streaming down my leg long after my shower from a shaving accident. I went through a cars and a hello kitty bandaid before I got it to stop and am now wearing the school issued flesh colored bandaid. Not quite as fun, but I do still have the sponge bob bandaid on my toe from dropping the full sized shampoo bottle on it yesterday. Working out is great, the after working out shower seems to be a little dangerous for me! Anyway, I’m happy for today because on the half marathon plan, I needed to be able to run 1 ½ by the end of the month, so I’m on time and perhaps can be ahead!
